Koah The Brave

Koah is part of the extended Papakura City FC family, the son of Marvin Eakins. Marvin has a long history with the club most recently being the coach of the Papakura City FC Women's Futsal team for which he was nominated and selected as a finalist in for Coach of the Year at the recent Counties Manukau Sporting Excellence Awards.

Koah has severe cerebal palsy and whānau and friends have started "Gift for Koah" to fundraise for therapy programmes over and above the available options through the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health.

In 2022 Koah bravely underwent double hip surgery, a significant procedure that saw him spend 21 long days in hospital. The post-surgery journey was equally daunting, Koah committed to six months of intensive physical therapy striving toward regaining his previous abilities. It took over a year to be able to do the things he loves and wants to do. Yet, after having the pins removed from his hips at the start of 2023 and everything looking good, an x-ray taken in September 2023 shows his left hip has come out of the socket again, meaning he needs another surgery in early 2024.

To improve his recovery, the family (and Koah) would like to do at least two, 3-week intensive therapy programs offered by an Australian company called "Centre of Movement". This three-week programme is designed not only to strengthen Koah physically but also to uplift his spirit. A significant component of this therapy is the Trexo Robotics gait trainer—an innovative piece of wearable robotics that aids children with disabilities in experiencing the joy of walking.

Total therapy costs are AUD 16,200 = NZD 17,500 plus travel and accommodation.

Your support can be pivotal in a speedy recovery for Koah the Brave.
